Healthcare expenses
are a very big burden to many South Africans. In order to alleviate the heavy
payments that are required for healthcare, hospital plans are a wise investment
for those needing medical cover in hospital.
The question
surrounding this option is: should one choose a hospital plan in place of other
forms of medical aids? The answer is yes and no. This highly depends on you as
an individual person.
Hospital plans work
efficiently for emergencies and serves as a safety net for a person if they are
involved in a serious accident or if they require hospitalisation for any other
need. This is why many younger people who do not require a lot of day-to-day
medical care opt for this cover.
A hospital plan
usually comes with lower premiums as opposed to other medical schemes.
Obviously it is important to keep in mind that the plan is limited. This means
that because of the lower rates, you will have fewer benefits. It is convenient
for those who are starting off with lower wages as they receive emergency care
without having to dig too deep into their pockets.
Hospital plans also
have lower regulations and restrictions when it comes to who they cover. Unlike
medical aid and medical insurances, age does not play a big role in determining
the cost of cover. This basically means that excess penalty fees will not apply
to anyone who joins.
Obviously, a full
medical aid scheme will offer more benefits; however, consider a hospital plan
as opposed to no medical cover at all.
